Just a small corner of my dining room That I have set aside for a small Americana collection. I have other Americana decorations throughout the house but here you see how I have used small quilts I have made to bring it all together. I find it best when decorating not to clutter the entire house with many items in every nook and cranny. If you have it too busy the eye does not know where to go and so nothing in particular draws ones attention. The adage "KISS" ( Keep It Simple Stupid) I believe applies to home decor as much as anything else. I try to section areas that will draw ones attention. I also use small quilts as table runners and some as wall hangings. But to me when decorating 'less is more'. I have been to peoples houses where every wall, every space available is overflowing with knickknacks. And it is some times fun to look through all this stuff, but one is reminded of being in a flea-mart or secondhand store rather than a persons home. I have been to others houses where they have kept the same theme throughout the house. This is not all bad except when you start to use that theme in everything. For example I went to one persons house where she was in love with 'Kincaid' (hope the spelling is right). She had dozens of his paintings on the walls of every room. Now this would not have been so bad, but if you know of Kincaid paintings you know they are very bright and colorful. Truly magnificent, but when you start employing the same colors in your furniture and knickknacks it becomes overwhelming and the place looked like a circus rather than a home. Also even though the house was large in square footage the rooms were on the small side. To appreciate a painting one must place some distance between you and the painting. The only way to do this was to actually sit in the furniture. Merely walking through the house did not give the desired perspective as you were too close to the paintings. When using any decoration whether it be quilts or pictures / paintings or knickknacks be sure to use just what is needed to draw ones attention and then also try not to have one decorating idea run over another. Use some space to divide areas of interest. For example this Americana decor is in one corner of my dining room. I have another wall decor in the breakfast nook. My doll collection occupies two cabinets in the living room and a third section near the fireplace is devoted to my woodworking. Not only does the wood go well with the fireplace theme and oak mantle, I also have a painting of a frigid frozen lake and forest near the fireplace as well. I think this draws ones attention to the fireplace and the warmth it provides by the burning of wood. Another is for family pictures all in one section and another over the piano is some knickknacks and a glass bonsai tree for an oriental display. Interspersed between these decorating themes are wall hangings and paintings that tie the areas together, yet keep them separate. My collection of figurines adorn a shelf built into the upper wall at about eight feet in height, (I have cathedral ceilings in the living and kitchen areas separated by another eight foot wall) that is perhaps 20 feet long and another section over the center wall that is open adorns a lavish display of floral arrangements and ivy's, all silk of course, with some bird figurines placed strategically. I do not believe my decor is sparse but it is definitely sectioned with some white space on the walls and different themes in different areas. I think this best shows my decor without overwhelming the eye. It is like going through a gallery or museum with different subject matter in different areas, loosely tied together by paintings and wall hangings. My quilts play a part in breaking the hard lines of furniture as I place lap quilts over the back of couches and recliners. These quilts not only serve to add to the decor but they are functional as people use them when snuggling up to watch a movie or if they are chilled. My crocheted doilies adorn most coffee and end tables and the top of the piano as well as dressers. Quilted table runners in the dining room and themed runners during Thanksgiving, Christmas and other holidays. Everything in moderation though, as one does not want the feel of being in a second hand store. Tami Spanaway, WA. Vintage lingerie and some gently used and new clothing for children and adults

The following is the same on every page and if you have already read it there is no need to do so again. The main links are on the left nav-bar. My daughter has Cerebral Palsy. I do not say this for sympathy. I have created a site devoted to helping people with disabilities find resources they need to navigate DSHS, DDD, SSI and others including the school system. What I need from you is to let people with disabilities know of the site and get them to send me information of their local and State agencies that fulfill the needs of the disabled. I want to make this information available to all for free on my site. I just need the help of either a person with a child having cerebral palsy or any disability or a concerned person who can donate their time to help seek out this information of advocacy groups for the disabled. I am spending what time and resources I have but I need help. Please check out the site and if you can contribute with any information please do so. Check out the site I made for families with children who have CP Click http://www.cpfsn.org
Through having to take our daughter to therapy and doctors appointments we have come to know many parent's of children with Cerebral Palsy. In the course of our attempts to advocate for our daughter and upon hearing of the same troubles others have had doing the same we decided to use some web space and try to do something about it. We want very much to be able to provide relevant information for every locality across the country so that people seeking information do not have to spend days in search of the information they need. We would welcome any help you could give us. Any links you can supply for either .gov's or private agencies that provide for or advocate for the Disabled would be appreciated. We would like to break them down by Federal, State, County, City and Schools. Please visit www.cpfsn.org and see if there is anything you can contribute to grow the site into a useful and relevant site for people with disabilities specially those with Children who have Cerebral Palsy.
